I've had these for a while now... Described as a 'freeride' shoe by five ten, theyincorporate the use of Stealth 'Phantom' red,non marking rubber for more casual duties. Even though they are primarilly a casual shoe, they aren't afraid of taking a battering out on the pump track or flowing through some trails. The Sole is just stiff enough to provide you with a solid platform on your pedal. However, watch out for your ankles as these things don't offer much in the form of protection.
The new phantom stealth rubber keeps you glued to the pedals. They provide maybe a little less grip than the 'impact' shoe, but thats not what you want when you need to bail 6 feet up.
As you can see mine have taken quite a battering. Some classy detailling there ^^ on the rear of the shoe showing the shoes heritage. They do have a very 'converse' style to them, but with that new 5:10 logo stitched into the side you'll definetly be getting noticed around the pits. Priced at £54.99 they don't come cheap, but they will last you much longer than oyur average skate shoe. I hear they have a good returns department anyway ;) If your in need of a new shoe, but you don't want your normal vans, DC skate shoe, then the Five Ten Basic shoe is spot on, it even comes in handy when you forget your Impacts on race day!
